Deep down I harbor harping fears
Of pushing you away from me
And yet the moment’s magic is intoxicating—
I wonder if you feel it too, and would agree
I want to reach out, pluck this moment from midair;
Capture the way the light wind smooths the lawns, our hair,
And all the worries of today. And makes tomorrow
Seem so insignificant
One hand on steering wheel, one hand in yours,
I glimpse the reddish glower of the traffic light
Through half-closed eyelids as I peek, make sure
It’s not turned green as we sneak a kiss
Really, I’d stay here an eternity with you
Digging my toes into the carpet of the days
As they slide from under our feet
And with our hair that light breeze plays
And later in the streets we share a grin,
In front of friends, coolly detached we act
As if just yesterday we hadn’t shared
One breath, one heartbeat, and one sense
That temporarily, life is joy
Long hours dissolve to dust when we’re together
Talking of everything, our love not kept at bay
Then we get up, we stretch our legs,
The traffic light turns green. Alas, the carpet slips away
